A Great Day

I had the most wonderful day of shopping since I started couponing.

There was a great promotion at Save-A-Lot for free spaghetti dinner stuff and they had some great prices on produce as well.

There was a Petco nearby that had a grand opening. I was able to get a 20 lb bag of Science diet that was regularly priced at $37.99 for $8.99 plus tax.

We also went to Walmart and a local salon/spa.

For all of my groceries, lotions and a pair of Victoria Secret panties(free) I spent $18.81.

A List of Ministry Needs

I was encouraged by a friend to put a list of needs on the blog. As a brand new charity, we have had quite a few obstacles and struggles and expect more to come. A big struggle right now is an older laptop that was donated to us to use for the books. The computer guy down the hill was surprised that it still works if that gives you any idea. I am very thankful that it was donated to us, but it wont access the internet which is needed to get the printer driver to download. So, long story short, we need a working computer. We are currently using our home computer but would love to get a notebook that can be used in transit. If you or someone you know has a working notebook that they are not using and would be willing to donate it to a charity that wants to help people in need, then please email us at familyhopeministries@gmail.com .

Another need, the biggest one, is prayer. Please pray that we will continually follow the Lord's leading with this ministry. If you would like to join our prayer list for more detailed things to pray for, please email us at familyhopeministries@gmail.com.

Crockpot Creation

I am determined to create great meals with what I have on hand.... So here is what I came up with for tonights dinner:

Crockpot Smoked Sausage and Cabbage

1/2 head cabbage-chopped
1 onion-chopped
3 turkey sausage links-chopped
1 cup broth
1/2 tsp mustard pwd
1 tbsp brown sugar
salt and pepper

Layer the cabbage, onion and sausage in the crockpot. Whisk together the broth, mustard pwd, vinegar and brown sugar; pour over slow cooker ingredients. Sprinklw with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Serve with potatoes and a tossed salad, if desired.

I will serve this with some instant mashed potatoes that were free with coupons. The sausage was pretty inexpensive with coupons too so the cost for this meal is probably less than a dollar.

An example of helping

I have a friend that has a teenage daughter. Her daughter has a friend that we will call Hope. Hope lives with her mother and older sister. Hope is in a pretty tough situation being as young as she is. Her mother doesn't provide the basic necessities for Hope such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc. Sometimes Hope doesn't even have any food to eat.

I have never met Hope, but along with another one of my friends, have been able to give her all sorts of basic necessites that were purchased with coupons for our stockpiles. The things we gave her really didn't cost all that much for us because of how we shop, but I am sure they are priceless to a teenager who is neglected.

It is my hope that Family Hope Ministries will be able to raise enough funding to open it's doors to Hope and others just like her. We would be able to provide clothing and household items as well as give them the necessary instruction on how to handle money, how to cook, garden, sew and other basic skills.
